Conventional Ceramic Color Changing Mug Forming Process
 

 

Raw material preparation

Choosing clay or porcelain clay as the base material requires pre-treatment processes such as kneading and removing impurities.

Shaping process

Casting molding: Place the clay material on a turntable and manually or mechanically cast it to form the prototype of the cup body


Trimming and shaping: Use carving tools to finely trim details such as cup mouth and handle.

Initial firing

Put the dried raw material into the kiln and burn it at a high temperature of 1200-1300 ℃ to form white material.

Color changing process treatment
 

 

Thermal coating spraying

 

Spray thermochromic powder (thermosensitive material) on the surface of the cup, which can undergo color changes above 40 ℃ or below 20 ℃ and needs to be cured at a high temperature of 320 ℃.

Pattern transfer printing technology

 

Thermal transfer printing method (mainstream process):
① Use a color inkjet printer (such as Epson R290) combined with thermal transfer ink to print the pattern on transfer paper
② Apply high temperature and pressure of 180-200 ℃ through a cup baking machine to transfer the pattern onto the cup body, which takes about 3 minutes


Water transfer printing method:
Soak the printed water transfer paper to peel off the pattern, manually attach it to the cup body, and bake it to shape.

Secondary firing and solidification

 

The transferred cup needs to be fired again in the kiln to fully integrate the glaze and color changing coating, enhancing wear resistance and color stability.

Handmade painting: Some high-end products use resin pigments to manually draw patterns, such as the peony color changing cup, which requires more than 20 processes.


Multi layer color printing: up to 20 colors can be accurately printed using a rolling machine, suitable for customizing complex patterns
