The main component of ordinary glass is silicon dioxide, amorphous inorganic non-metallic materials, generally by a variety of inorganic minerals as the main raw materials, such as: quartz sand, borax, boric acid, barite, barium carbonate, limestone, often, soda ash, in addition to add a small number of auxiliary raw materials made.
High borosilicate glass is a kind of reinforced refractory glass, on the basis of ordinary glass components, add 12.5~13.5% boron, in the manufacturing process, also need to add glaze sodium silicate sand, soda water and lime, the strain temperature can reach 520℃, the strength is higher.
Compared with ordinary glass, it has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion: (3.3 × 0.1) ×10-6/K, only about 1/3 of ordinary glass. That is, the deformation is smaller after heat, so that it is less likely to crack after heat and cold. We should all have this experience, in winter, directly pour boiling water into a thick glass, the glass will crack directly.
In addition, water resistance, alkali resistance, acid resistance and other properties are much stronger than ordinary glass. Of course, that's not to say that high-borosilicate glass can't be cracked by heat, but compared to ordinary glass, it's not that easy to break, so if you buy high-borosilicate glass, you still have to be careful with it.
The insulation tiles of the shuttle are also coated with high-borosilicate glass, which shows how strong high-borosilicate glass is.
Also because of all aspects of the performance is stronger than ordinary glass, so the price is higher.
